Happy Diwali 2021 - Wishes and Greetings

Diwali, or Deepawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday. Indians light clay lamps (deepas) to represent the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness during the festival (avali). This year Diwali is celebrated on Nov 04, 2021. In India, especially in the north, west, and east, Deepavali is celebrated annually as a festival of lights.

Diwali has evolved into a national festival that is also enjoyed by non-Hindus. It honors the day that Guru Hargobind Ji, the Sixth Sikh Guru, was freed from imprisonment in Sikhism; and in Jainism it commemorates Lord Mahavira's nirvana on October 15, 527 B.C. Buddhists also celebrate Diwali as well.

Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wisdom and wealth, whereas Lord Ganesh is worshipped for prosperity and welfare. Festivals marking Lord Rama's return from 14 years of exile usually fall in November and October. Five consecutive days are observed in many parts of the country during the festival. Certainly, it is the most famous festival in India, and it is considered a celebration of life.

Diwali is celebrated over a five-day period.
  • On the first day of the festival: People clean their homes and buy gold and kitchen utensils in an effort to bring good fortune.

  • On the second day of the festival: People decorate their homes with clay lamps and mix colored powders or use sand to make rangoli patterns on the floor.

  • On the third day of the festival: The most important day of the festival, Lakshmi puja, is when families come together to offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and celebrate with mouthwatering food.

  • On the fourth day of the festival: Friends and relatives visit with gifts and best wishes for the new year on the first day of the year.

  • On the fifth day of the festival: Brother visits a married sister, who responds with love and a lavish dinner.

Diwali is celebrated differently by Hindus in different parts of the world. Regardless of where people celebrate, they all have one thing in common: the triumph of good over evil.
